Notes |
- Per and Nilla were a happy ambitious couple in Sweden. Nilla was considered a wise person. Per and Nilla were quite wealthy. They had many men working for them. These men assumed the last name Jeppeson or Jeppson which is the custom in Sweden. Therefore in looking up the name Jeppson, there will be those who are not actually related. Per and Nilla?s son, Jons, made a statement that there might be a way to distinguish between them. In Sweden children took their names as a "son" or "dotter" of their father. For example the son of Per would have a second name of Persson, or the daughter of Marten would be Martensdotter. As told by his granddaughter, Karin, Per had a long white beard that she would braid while sitting on his lap. He taught her to read and to sing a lot of songs, especially ?Work for the Night is Coming.? Nellie Pearson Ray, another granddaughter, used to sing the same song while working about the house and garden. Per died of a stroke or heart attack with a psalm book he was reading under his chin.
