    • Alice Gertrude (Ray) Witte, 90, died Tuesday (May 16, 2006) at Cambridge Manor in Cambridge.

      She was born April 17, 1916, in Furnas County, northwest of Wilsonville, to William and Nellie (Pearson) Ray.

      She attended Huntley and Wilsonville Schools, graduating from Wilsonville in 1933. She taught school for 12 years in Furnas County and Red Willow school districts.

      On April 22, 1947, she married LeRoy Witte in Cambridge. They resided on a farm south of Cambridge for 32 years. The couple retired from the farm in 1979 and moved to Cambridge. In addition to raising their own five children, she also helped raise her niece and nephew after their mother's death.

      She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and Altar Society, the Busy Bee Quilting Club, St. John's Alter Society and the American Legion Auxiliary.

      She was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy ; a sister, Edna; and brother-in-law, Tom Lewis.

      Survivors include five children; Gene and wife, Susan Witte, Dean and wife, Linda Witte, all of Cambridge, Diane and husband, Tom Woodruff of Aurora, Colo., Dennis and wife, Debbie Witte, of Denver, Colo., and Kathryn and husband, Michael Winkle of Lincoln; nephew, Marvin and wife, Marlene Witte, and Mary and husband, Dale Wilson of Wilsonville; 15 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

      Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Thursday, at St. John's Catholic Church in Cambridge. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.

      Rosary will be 7:30 p.m., Wednesday at Lockenour JonesMortuary.

      Memorials may be given to the LeRoy and Alice Witte Memorial Fund.
