- Sophia Beck arrived in America with her brother Conrad on May 12, 1885. The fare from Russia to America was about $70 which was not much but the ships were probably not very comfortable. They arrived at Ellis Island and her name is forever engraved on the American Immigrant Wall of Honor. Sophia became the hired girl at the Dolan farm near Indianola, Nebraska where she met the hired hand, Otis B. Coburn. They were married a year and a half after she arrived in America.
