Marvin Raymond Heskett died Monday, Dec. 29, 2003, at the Cambridge Manor Care Center in Cambridge at the age of 88.
He was born Oct. 30, 1915, in McCook, the son of the late William C. and Goldie (Smith) Heskett. At an early age the family moved to a farm northwest of McCook. Marvin attended McCook High school before entering the United States Navy serving on a troop transport ship, the USS Thomas Jefferson, during World War II.
On April 13, 1940, Marvin married Verna Irene Hill in Norton, Kan., and they spent their entire lives in McCook.
Marvin was employed in various jobs before a long career at Sidles Auto Parts Store, retiring in 1978. He and Verna traveled extensively during retirement. Many winters were spent in Mesa, Ariz., where they enjoyed square dancing.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Alvin and Melvin Heskett; and two sisters, Myrle Haigwood and Berniece Clark.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Verna of Cambridge; two sons, Harley Ray and wife, Viola of Emporia, Kan., and Michael James of McCook; one daughter, Linda Witte and husband, Dean of Cambridge; six grandchildren, Lynnette Honea and husband, Shawn, Cori Thomas and husband, James, Lori Druse and husband, Tom, Deann Hunter and husband, Gerry, Brad Witte and wife, Jessica and Janet Witte; four great-grandchildren, Scott and Jackson Honea and Gavin and Emily Druse; sisters, Mildred Carfield of Arapahoe, Eleanor Ransom and husband, Ira of Brigham City, Utah and Maxine Stevens of McCook; one brother, Kenneth and wife, Pat of Chico, Calif.; and relatives and friends.
Memorial services are 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at the First Baptist Church in McCook with the Rev. Stan Hendershot officiating. Inurnment with military honors will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook.
Memorials may be given in his name and left at Herrmann Funeral Home in McCook.
